How this is calculated

We calculate your weekly round-trip distance from the distance each way and days per week you enter, then scale that to monthly and annual distance.

Fuel cost is calculated from your distance, fuel consumption and fuel price. Parking, tolls, public transport and other costs are added on top.

We also total the hours your commute costs you each year, based on the time each way you enter.

Formula

Weekly distance = distance each way × 2 × days per weekFuel cost = (distance ÷ 100 × L/100km consumption × price per litre) — or the imperial equivalent using MPG and price per gallonAnnual commuting hours = time each way × 2 × days per week × 52 ÷ 60

Worked example

A 15km each-way commute, 5 days a week, at 8L/100km and $2/L in fuel costs roughly $1,560 a year in fuel alone — before parking or tolls.
